Admin & Dev 2005 near London -- a great way to handle conference CD's

By Andrew Pollack on 09/29/2004 at 09:37 AM EDT
These guys put on a great show. For such a small conference, the speaker list is great and the level of effort the organizers put in is outstanding. I've enjoyed both previous times I've done speaking engagements for them. One thing I really like that I wish other conferences would do, is they send out the conference CD to all attendees AFTER the show. That means I'll burn a CD and give it to them when I'm done that contains the actual final presentation as I deliver it. It can be frustrating having to hand in a presentation two months before a show so they can make CD's, especially when the stuff you're talking about changes in a matter of a few weeks.

I like getting the cd a few weeks after the show. I'm reminded of what I wanted to go back and investigate more, I'm relaxed and caught up from being out of the office, and its another "touch" from the publisher to me. I feels like added value. It doesn't hurt that it means I can put off finishing to the last minute.

Agree but Andrew tell them about your DB2 presentationBy John de Giorgio on 10/07/2004 at 02:24 AM EDT
I attended Andrew's session on the new DB2 features in Domino/Notes 7 and it
was excellent. Very practical, open, informative and also explorative. Little
slideware and lots of "Not sure about that answer, so let's try that out..."

Well done Andrew.

The truth is, I haven't had much to say that was worthy of more than a basic social media post -- until today. For my current work, I was assigned a new laptop. It's a real powerhouse machine with 14 processor cores and 64 gigs of ram. It should be perfect for running my development environment in a virtual machine, but it wasn't. VirtualBox was barely starting, and no matter how many features I turned off, it could ......
  2. 04/04/2020How many Ventilators for the price of those tanks the Pentagon didn't even want? This goes WAY beyond Trump or Obama. This is decades of poor planning and poor use of funds. Certainly it should have been addressed in the Trump, Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Reagan administrations -- all of which were well aware of the implications of a pandemic. I want a military prepared to help us, not just hurt other people. As an American I expect that with the ridiculous funding of our military might, we are prepared for damn near everything. Not just killing people and breaking things, but ......
  3. 01/28/2020Copyright Troll WarningThere's a copyright troll firm that has automated reverse-image searches and goes around looking for any posted images that they can make a quick copyright claim on. This is not quite a scam because it's technically legal, but it's run very much like a scam. This company works with a few "clients" that have vast repositories of copyrighted images. The trolls do a reverse web search on those images looking for hits. When they find one on a site that looks like someone they can scare, they work it like ......
