A lot of thought and planning, then 9 months waiting and finally I can show you these pictures!

Our oldest is already 22 years old. Its taken years to decide, and months waiting for it to get this far along. Delivery should be within 45 days, but I suspect it will go a bit late.

Where's your new baby being built? I live just down the road from Ferrara Fire
Apparatus.
For the first time, I can say there is something I can imagine good about living near New Orleans!By Andrew Pollack on 05/04/2006 at 10:51 PM EDT
That's cool Craig.

Our new Engine-1 is a Ferrara extruded body class-A pumper on their "Igniter"
chasis. We also have our new Engine-4 being delivered at the same time, which
is a less complicated Ferrara rig for the Chebeague Island station. This will
be our fourth and fifth Ferrara pieces. We currently have a heavy rescue
(Squad-1) and quint (Ladder-7) both built on the Inferno chassis and another
pumper (Engine-3) built on the Igniter. The next due for replacement is our
2000 gallon Tanker-pumper, and assuming the bids fall as we expect, it will
also be a Ferrara.

We've been very impressed overall with these, finding them very near the top of
the line Pierce rigs at significantly less cost. The big feature is the
interior room in the cabs, resulting from Ferrara's custom chassis work that
lets the set the engines a little lower on the frame.

The only issues we've had have been minor -- resulting from either rushed paint
getting them out the door a little too quickly and some sensor issues with
compartment doors thinking they're open when they're not. Overall, on truck
worth from a quarter to three quarters of a million dollars, that's pretty
minor stuff.

I've driven our first three Ferrara rigs many times, and have trained several
of my Engine-1 crew on our Engine-3 as the new truck will be nearly the same.
They're great trucks.
I'm going to take the high road and assume you're saying that b/c of Katrina/Rita By Craig Wiseman on 05/05/2006 at 01:38 PM EDT
.... because otherwise, it's a great place to live & raise kids....

I was born & raised in the New Orleans area, and we moved to Baton Rouge
about 3 years ago (went from 10' below sea level to 10' above sea level - I'm
still adjusting.)

Sometimes events can make your past decisions (like moving) appear exceeding
stupid or exceedingly wise....

  1. 01/26/2023Better Running VirtualBox or VMWARE Virtual Machines on Windows 10+ Forgive me, Reader, for I have sinned. I has been nearly 3 years since my last blog entry. The truth is, I haven't had much to say that was worthy of more than a basic social media post -- until today. For my current work, I was assigned a new laptop. It's a real powerhouse machine with 14 processor cores and 64 gigs of ram. It should be perfect for running my development environment in a virtual machine, but it wasn't. VirtualBox was barely starting, and no matter how many features I turned off, it could ......
  2. 04/04/2020How many Ventilators for the price of those tanks the Pentagon didn't even want? This goes WAY beyond Trump or Obama. This is decades of poor planning and poor use of funds. Certainly it should have been addressed in the Trump, Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Reagan administrations -- all of which were well aware of the implications of a pandemic. I want a military prepared to help us, not just hurt other people. As an American I expect that with the ridiculous funding of our military might, we are prepared for damn near everything. Not just killing people and breaking things, but ......
  3. 01/28/2020Copyright Troll WarningThere's a copyright troll firm that has automated reverse-image searches and goes around looking for any posted images that they can make a quick copyright claim on. This is not quite a scam because it's technically legal, but it's run very much like a scam. This company works with a few "clients" that have vast repositories of copyrighted images. The trolls do a reverse web search on those images looking for hits. When they find one on a site that looks like someone they can scare, they work it like ......
