Andrew Pollack's Blog

Technology, Family, Entertainment, Politics, and Random Noise

Should I quit pretending that I'm going to have time to update this blog site and switch to Domino Blog?

Ok, you tell me. I know some of you really don't like the UI on this blog design. I'm tired of it too -- but the idea of using some canned software doesn't thrill me. I've put off doing it because I have some big ideas for the site. So far, as anyone can predict, I've had no time to do anything about them.

Tell me the truth -- does this design suck so bad I should dump it as soon as possible?

One advantage to this one though -- no spam.

Dominoblog will keep your spam protection - but whilst your site is not a
"modern" design (no offense meant - I can't design UI anyway) it serves its
purpose from what I can see.

Content is easy to see - comments are easy to use - it has a clear navigator.

Maybe seeing the content of the comments together would be an improvement?

A nice compliment from a "competitor" ... and Steve is rightBy Jens on 10/25/2006 at 05:44 PM EDT
yes, it serves its purpose very well. And yes, reading the comments is the one
thing I would wish to have enhanced. But den losing the tread-structure, that
Andrew has implemented, would be a loss of information and hence readability. I
would wish to have a blogsphere or so that would have the ability to have
comments in a threaded structure.

I read your site for the content, not for the layout. Reading comments together
with a main post would be nice. You might want to let go from the beveled boxes
(I guess some css would do that trick) and beef up on the title bar?

  2. 07/13/2018Who is HCL and why is it a good thing that they are now the ones behind Notes and Domino? We need to address some biases here. IBM has made a deal under which the Notes & Domino software and intellectual property is now being developed and maintained by HCL America. HCL America is part of the very large "HCL Technologies" company that has grown from its roots in India to become an 8 Billion Dollar company with a global presence in the IT Industry. You could be excused for initially believing, as many people do when they hear this, that "they've outsourced the code to India where they'll milk it ......

If your company has ditched Notes and Domino, I feel sorry for you. For companies that do use Notes/Domino this is a game changer and Apple should be paying attention. Here's why: There are hundreds of little Notes client applications you'd never spend the time and money to build and deploy for your internal user base on IOS that we use Notes for all the time (those of us still using it). Now, those are suddenly ALL available on the iPad. ......
