Some technology is so cool you wish you could make other people use it.

Remember that "Jawbone" I blogged about? It really works! YOU NEED one of these for Lotusphere.

picture of jawbone earpiece Some technology is so cool you wish you could make other people use it. After playing with the new Jawbone bluetooth headset, I really wish I could make anyone calling me at Lotusphere use one.

After looking at this demo I went and bought one and put it through my own test. In a quick and dirty trial, I called myself and left voicemail using the headset. I was driving on the highway and the stereo was playing a good enough volume to be clear over the kids yelling in the back seat. While talking, I turned off the noise cancelling feature and kept talking then turned it back on.

My voice clarity degraded just a bit while the noise cancelling was in effect - more when the background was loudest -- but the background noise went away entirely. It makes me sound like I'm in a phone booth but talking through low bandwidth voip connection.

Best damn headset I have bought...By Alex Wilson on 01/03/2007 at 09:31 AM EST
The simple fact that they include multiple ear pieces is wonderful. Not
everyone is the same. I have $200 worth of headsets that did not cut it. The
Jawbone has been great. I used it the other night on an ambulance call when our
radios were not working... getting clear instructions from the doctor was a
wonderful experience and my hands were free to provide patient care at the same
time.

I wonder how well it would survive a structure fire? (no plans to test!)
survive a structure fire? LOL. Not even for a second.By Andrew Pollack on 01/03/2007 at 09:45 AM EST
Alex, going into a structure fire is hot enough that your helmet can get soft.
I've seen face masks start to distort and gnomex gear discolor.

Also, you couldn't wear this. It's position would prevent it from being
functional and would also break full encapsulation.

Oh, and it'd melt by the time you got close to the fire.

btw: we really need to arrange a local Second Signal demo in your area soon.

The truth is, I haven't had much to say that was worthy of more than a basic social media post -- until today. For my current work, I was assigned a new laptop. It's a real powerhouse machine with 14 processor cores and 64 gigs of ram. It should be perfect for running my development environment in a virtual machine, but it wasn't. VirtualBox was barely starting, and no matter how many features I turned off, it could ......

Certainly it should have been addressed in the Trump, Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Reagan administrations -- all of which were well aware of the implications of a pandemic. I want a military prepared to help us, not just hurt other people. As an American I expect that with the ridiculous funding of our military might, we are prepared for damn near everything. Not just killing people and breaking things, but ......
  3. 01/28/2020Copyright Troll WarningThere's a copyright troll firm that has automated reverse-image searches and goes around looking for any posted images that they can make a quick copyright claim on. This is not quite a scam because it's technically legal, but it's run very much like a scam. This company works with a few "clients" that have vast repositories of copyrighted images. The trolls do a reverse web search on those images looking for hits. When they find one on a site that looks like someone they can scare, they work it like ......
