VERY bad news for those of us who use POSTINI -- it is going away

By Andrew Pollack on 08/21/2012 at 09:37 PM EDT

Google will soon be turning off its popular spam filtering and e-mail archiving product, Postini. It will shift Postini users to Google Apps.

I use Postini, and have for years. This is going to be a real pain the butt for me.

I'm probably going to give These Guys a try: http://www.spamhero.com/

Damnit damnit damnit damnit. I've been extremely happy with my Postini
service. Guess I'll have to give my money to some other vendor instead. You
are right though, this is a PIA I would rather not have to deal with.

Sigh.

I think you're misinterpreting what is happening. From the email they sent me,
it looks like you can still use your domino server etc. but the filtering will
be done by their Google Apps back end not the Postini back end. My incomming
mail, will still go to Google before it hits my servers.

If it works as well as postini has, I won't care.

I don't read it that way at all. To be honest, I'm also long-term tired of
the nonexistent support and bad UI. I've tolerated it because it works, but I
can't say I'm terribly stuck on it.

Spam hero looks good. The negative for me is that you need to register new
email addresses after the first 30 days. I am not sure what this adds for
domino users and it is an extra thing to do for each new mailbox.

Personally, I'm a big fan of McAfee SaaS solution. Similar to Postini. All
the features, similar cost. it started as Gateway Defender, then MXLogic, then
purchased by McAfee.

If your company has ditched Notes and Domino, I feel sorry for you. For companies that do use Notes/Domino this is a game changer and Apple should be paying attention. Here's why: There are hundreds of little Notes client applications you'd never spend the time and money to build and deploy for your internal user base on IOS that we use Notes for all the time (those of us still using it).
