If someone made these statements to you, in the order shown, would you find them deceptive?

By Andrew Pollack on 08/27/2007 at 10:49 PM EDT

Yes, I'm still going on about this. These people deliberately told me something would ship overnight, but only when pressed would admit that they couldn't commit to when it would actually ship. Sure, they'd ship it overnight once they shipped it, but it could be 8 days before that actually happened. Keep in mind, I'd already been promised the item overnight 3 times and been shipped a package without it.

"The replacement order will be sent to you overnight." -- but then when pressed to find out WHEN it would ship overnight, "I can not assure you that it will ship on Monday."

Would you feel deceived?

Those statements, in that order, came from Dell about an order that was already weeks late.

Fortunately for me, I found an after-market source for the product that was cheaper, and able to ship. I'll have it tomorrow (I already have the tracking number).

Yes I would feel deceived. To me your experiences with Dell carry the sounds
of the undertaker assembling the casket for the client he knows will soon be
his. I don't think Dell will survive much longer...

Misleading: yes.
Intentionally deceptive on the part of the CSR: I doubt it.
Intentionally deceptive and scripted by Dell corporate lawyers / management:
ABSO-FREAKIN-LUTELY!

As you know, I was a huge Dell proponent (and business partner) for many
years. For the last two years or so I have noticed a steady decline in the
what I perceive to be their business ethics.

I still think their hardware is top notch; but doing business with them has
become so distasteful that I now only do so under duress. It is similar to
mud-wrestling a pig -regardless of whether or not you win, you still get very,
very dirty.

OFF TOPIC: This semi-transparent floating comments box totally kicks ass!

The truth is, I haven't had much to say that was worthy of more than a basic social media post -- until today. For my current work, I was assigned a new laptop. It's a real powerhouse machine with 14 processor cores and 64 gigs of ram. It should be perfect for running my development environment in a virtual machine, but it wasn't. VirtualBox was barely starting, and no matter how many features I turned off, it could ......

Certainly it should have been addressed in the Trump, Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Reagan administrations -- all of which were well aware of the implications of a pandemic. I want a military prepared to help us, not just hurt other people. As an American I expect that with the ridiculous funding of our military might, we are prepared for damn near everything. Not just killing people and breaking things, but ......
  3. 01/28/2020Copyright Troll WarningThere's a copyright troll firm that has automated reverse-image searches and goes around looking for any posted images that they can make a quick copyright claim on. This is not quite a scam because it's technically legal, but it's run very much like a scam. This company works with a few "clients" that have vast repositories of copyrighted images. The trolls do a reverse web search on those images looking for hits. When they find one on a site that looks like someone they can scare, they work it like ......
