Domino & Notes version 7.0.1 now available -- contains what looks like a couple of REALLY key fixes...

By Andrew Pollack on 02/07/2006 at 10:47 AM EST

There are at least two fairly big deal updates in this release. If I read correctly, the very long standing issue some people have had where servers would seem to become unavailable unless you time-out and reconnect may have been resolved in this release. The other key issue I see is something I've experienced since moving to 7.0 which was that if your server failed to connect on a replication schedule, it didn't reschedule the connection which could mean replication would not happen unless either the other server initiated replication, you restarted your server, or you issued a replication command at the server console.

Here's the info from the larger fix list document

SPR# PMIA6GVMRW
This fix makes the client close sockets as soon as they detect the server has closed the sockets.

SPR# RBEO6HZM89 Regression in 7.0
Fixed a problem that can cause Scheduled Replication to stop rescheduling itself. This regression was introduced in 7.0.

Andrew, here are a couple of SPRs that we've ran into:

SPR# CAOA6F78Z2 - Fixed a problem where scheduled agents stopped running. The
problem seems to occur when using an agent set to run during a certain time
(for example 3:00 - 2:00), not all day. (We've seen this happen at least once.)

SPR# JCHN6DRS62 - Fixed an intermittent problem that can cause documents to not
show up in views properly when soft deletions are being used in a database.
Affected databases can be fixed by running fixup -f followed by updall -R. (I
believe this is part of what's happening in our environment with docs not being
"deleted" or restored properly in mail...)

SPR# MKIN6FARE7 - Fixed an erroneous debug in http request logs when we have a
cache hit for DWA.
Yes, there are DOZENS of fixes -- I point out these because they have impacted so many people (and in one case for a very long time)By Andrew Pollack on 02/07/2006 at 01:49 PM EST

I feel now we can upgrade the R6.5 servers to R 7.0.1 in our customer end
.Actually we were bit skeptical regarding R7.0.By the way can someone post some
upgrade strategy from R 6.5 servers to R 7.0.1 servers .

7.0.1 and IMBy Rich Thomsen on 02/10/2006 at 10:23 AM EST
One biggy I've been waiting for is an option to link integrated Notes
integrated IM to activity and not to locking the Notes client. There are some
INI parameters so you can time out Notes IM just like you can with the Connect
client. This is big for IM acceptance.

Perceived value goes way down when users always appear to be online but are
not. We worked around this by implementing a 15 minute client lock via policy
for IM users, but users don't like that all that much either!

This fix alone has set me on course for beginning 7.x server and client upgrade
planing.

The truth is, I haven't had much to say that was worthy of more than a basic social media post -- until today. For my current work, I was assigned a new laptop. It's a real powerhouse machine with 14 processor cores and 64 gigs of ram. It should be perfect for running my development environment in a virtual machine, but it wasn't. Certainly it should have been addressed in the Trump, Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Reagan administrations -- all of which were well aware of the implications of a pandemic. I want a military prepared to help us, not just hurt other people. As an American I expect that with the ridiculous funding of our military might, we are prepared for damn near everything. The trolls do a reverse web search on those images looking for hits. When they find one on a site that looks like someone they can scare, they work it like ......
