Looking for opinions on this logo

By Andrew Pollack on 11/10/2006 at 05:27 PM EST

Update: A final logo was chosen. Click here to see it.

Tell me what you guys think of this possible logo for "Second Signal". I'm too close to it.

I've spent way too much time working on this to have an objective opinion.

Great! It is just about Web 2.0 enough without being sickly sweet (or, as
Volker would put it, My First Firefighter).

I quite liked the bat-signal image, not sure if there are problems with that.
Is there any significance to the speech bubble originating at the g or n? I
guess you are not ever thinking of having this logo reproduced in monochrome
(used to be a bigger deal than it is now). The firefighter helmet is quite
distinctively American, this again is not a great problem but when you go
global you could swap it out for a localised lid. English and Welsh
firefighters look like this http://www.firemansam.co.uk. You might want to
think about two versions of the logo in different aspect ratios, perhaps a
banner one with the logo to one end of the name, and a more square version,
like the top logo.
as far as the helmet....By Andrew Pollack on 11/11/2006 at 02:04 PM EST
Right now, the market is US based. I don't see this in Europe any time soon.
You do not want to know what US Firefighters think of those helmets you use in
Europe and the UK.

The shape of a traditional firefighter's helmet in the US is very effective for
the kind of work we do. Among other things, it protects the back of the neck
from boiling water drops and falling debris -- and a lot of rain running off
the helmet when you're working out side from running down your back.

Top logo with bottom text is sweet! Unless you get some more curve on the
bottom logo where the circle joins.

Depending on your use the bottom shape might work better on paper as a letter
head?

Here are some sensible rules for web site advertisingAn increasing number of websites are now detecting when users have ad-blocking enabled, and refuse to show content unless you "whitelist" their site (disable your ad-blocking for them). I think that is a fair decision on their part, it's how they pay for the site. However, if you want me (and many others) to white list your site, there are some rules you should follow. If you violate these rules, I won't whitelist your site, I'll just find content elsewhere. 1. The total space taken up by advertisements ......
