Insanely cool way to discover music you like -- its almost magic. Stunning.

Its very rare that I repeat what someone else is already blogging. In this case, Volker Weber blogged this and its so incredible I wanted to re-blog it for both of you who read my site by not his. The site is Pandora and its just getting started.

In less than a minute, Pandora creates a customized radio station for you. It does this by asking you to start with your favorite song. Using data from the "Music Genome Project" to find songs which are similar in a musical sense to what you like. You can skip songs you don't like, add more favorites on your own and rate the ones it chooses to help it refine and expand your radio station.

The most amazing part, is that it really works. In less than 5 minutes, I had heard music totally unknown to me that I really enjoyed.

As things get up to speed, the free version will be advertising supported, while inexpensive subscriptions remove the ads. Each song being played includes the information you need to purchase it if you like it, and of course a link to a store that sells it.

These screenshots tell the story. You set up your new "station" by naming a song you like. It plays something from the same group or album first, then goes off and tries to guess at songs you'll like. The screens let you add more songs to the list, rate songs it plays, and skip a few songs each hour.

It even tells you WHY it picked a song if you want it to.

Click <here> to make your own station -- and let me know how it did!

I tried this after Volker blogged about it, and within minutes it found some
very cool songs by groups I had never even heard of. Really amazing site.

I feel same way about Yahoo Messenger customised radio station. It too builds
up a profile of what genres, artists, albums, songs you like. It then plays a
combination of stuff you like and stuff it *thinks* you will like.

I'm constantly finding new stuff that I like and its hitting the old Amazon
one-click shopping hard.
I'm lovin' it! thanks!By Chris Reckling on 12/06/2005 at 05:58 PM EST

The truth is, I haven't had much to say that was worthy of more than a basic social media post -- until today. For my current work, I was assigned a new laptop. It's a real powerhouse machine with 14 processor cores and 64 gigs of ram. It should be perfect for running my development environment in a virtual machine, but it wasn't. VirtualBox was barely starting, and no matter how many features I turned off, it could ......

Certainly it should have been addressed in the Trump, Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Reagan administrations -- all of which were well aware of the implications of a pandemic. I want a military prepared to help us, not just hurt other people. As an American I expect that with the ridiculous funding of our military might, we are prepared for damn near everything. Not just killing people and breaking things, but ......
  3. 01/28/2020Copyright Troll WarningThere's a copyright troll firm that has automated reverse-image searches and goes around looking for any posted images that they can make a quick copyright claim on. This is not quite a scam because it's technically legal, but it's run very much like a scam. This company works with a few "clients" that have vast repositories of copyrighted images. The trolls do a reverse web search on those images looking for hits. When they find one on a site that looks like someone they can scare, they work it like ......
